Dany Laferrière

On 12th December 2013 Dany Laferrière was elected to the Académie française.  Laferrière was born in Port-au-Prince and spent his childhood with his grand-mother in Petit-Goâve. In 1976 he fled dictatorship in Haïti to go to Québec, where he started to write, working on his first novel How to Make Love to a Negro without being Tired (1985). His American Autobiography soon made him the representative of a generation which would revolutionize the writing of fiction. In 2018 he publishedAutoportrait de Paris avec Chat; a 320-page book which was entirely hand-drawn. In total Laferrière has published 30 books that have been translated into more than 15 languages.
